19 / 02 / 2025

Matthias Biedenkapp, founder of UI labs and Managing Director for many years, has decided to step down from his position as Managing Director at the end of March after 16 years and to retire.

Matthias Biedenkapp has worked in asset management for more than 35 years and in IT management positions for more than 18 years. He has consistently applied this expertise to his work at UI labs. Under his aegis, UI labs has become a leading IT provider of front-office solutions to the asset management industry since its establishment in 2009. Since its integration into the Universal Investment Group in 2019, these solutions have also been key to Universal Investment’s broad range of products, particularly for asset managers. UI labs is thus relevant to the UI Group’s strategic ambition to become one of the leading global providers of fund services.

In order to ensure the continuity and implementation of important UI projects for our clients, Matthias Biedenkapp will continue to work for us on a project basis from April until the end of the year.

Bastian Heinrich, also Managing Director of UI labs and with the company for more than 15 years, will take over from Matthias Biedenkapp and reports currently to Francesca McDonagh. He will be supported by the entire senior management team of the UI Group, in particular Chief Technology Officer John Burns and Chief Operating Officer Mathias Heiß. Together they will ensure a smooth transition.

Matthias comments: “It has been a great time at UI labs and I am proud of what we have built together with the team and our clients. Of course I am sad to say goodbye, but I know that our clients and employees are in the best hands with Bastian.”

We would like to thank Matthias for his great commitment to UI labs and Universal Investment. He has always put innovation and client focus at the heart of his actions and those of UI labs, setting standards in the industry. We would like to take this opportunity to wish him well in his future endeavours and look forward to working with him until the end of the year.
